- To work with The Recording Academy's Advocacy office to promote the rights of creative
professionals in the areas of intellectual property, new streams of revenue, music
preservation, music education and freedom of expression.
- To increase public awareness of the value of the art and craft of recording and
the enhanced emotional experience created by listening to high-resolution audio.
- To encourage recording industry standards and best practices, in part by the creation
and distribution of Guidelines & Recommendations addressing current industry problems.
These documents include:
- Delivery Recommendations For Master Recordings: These recommendations
address the question of which technologies and methodologies currently provide for
the most reliable storage and future recovery of recorded musical assets.
- Digital Audio Workstation Session Guidelines For Music Production:
The guidelines recommended here establish conventions for the digital equivalent
of an analog "track sheet" and greatly improve efficiency during the process of
transferring sessions between workstation operators.
- Recommendations For Surround Sound Production: This document provides
a summary of the current state of the art and a description of current production
practices as well as distribution and encoding formats. Also included is a discussion
of surround sound mastering considerations, sample rate conversion, down-mixing,
and up-mixing.
- To establish relationships with audio-related professional organizations in order
to build consensus and community.
- To advocate for proper crediting of the creative professionals involved in recording.
- To foster a Recording Industry Manufacturers Alliance that supports the development
of quality products and encourages the adoption of consumer-friendly recommendations
and standards.
- To present educational events, seminars, and networking opportunities.
- To work with record labels, studios and recording professionals to disseminate
knowledge on the proper labeling, archiving and storage of master media.
- To work with recording education programs to improve the quality of education offered
to students.
- To increase public awareness of the potential for hearing loss associated with
exposure to high-volume listening.
